Whereas a typical two-story home organizes its private program on top of public, Saddle Peak inverts that relationship so that kitchen, dining, and living sit atop private bedrooms and dens. The house is efficiently planned and excavation is reduced by accessing its public program from the existing road on the ridgeline.
The main residence includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms with kitchen, dining room, living room, study, two powder rooms, and a third convertible bedroom that will be used as a dog hobby space. Expansive glazing in the bedrooms and living room face westward to take advantage of the site’s stunning views.
A deep roof overhang shields the outdoor deck from the hot western exposure and frames the view. The deck provides additional outdoor space for family dining and entertaining that fluidly connects to the large, open living room and kitchen beyond.
